Silent Spring created a stir when it was first published and reading it nearly 50 years later feels, in many ways, like deja vu. The specific details may be different, but the overall picture is far too familiar. Chemical companies, government agencies, popular media, special interests, all continue to tell us that we must destroy every organism that might conceivably cause discomfort or inconvenience to our perceived "good" life. The fact remains that heavy-handed, get-them-before-they-get-us,kill-them-all-off mentality will, in the end, do just that - destroying the very life it strives, supposedly, to protect. I disagree! We cannot afford to allow malaria to continue to destroy life and bedbugs to overrun hotels and businesses! These bloodsuckers need to be eradicated and DDT is the cheapest, safest, and most effective way to do this!
